Exploring public cybercrime prevention campaigns and victimization of businesses: A Bayesian model averaging approach

Cybercrime is a pressing concern for governments and businesses around the globe, but little known about what policy interventions work to prevent mitigate threats organizations. Thus, empirical studies on cybercrime prevention policies tools are needed understand their effectiveness improve implementation evaluation. This article analyzes whether two UK government schemes aimed at encouraging helping adopt cybersecurity controls ('Cyber Essentials’ ‘10 Steps Cyber Security’) associated with safer organizational behavior adopting recommended measures related lower levels of victimization its impacts. Bayesian model averaging employed representative sample 5,872 from four rounds (2018–2021) Government's Security Breaches Survey. The results show that awareness Government more cyber secure practices, we do not find evidence likelihood or negative consequences companies implement measures.
